About Me
My Story
I’m Ashley—a lifelong reader, as well as a blogger, writer, and proofreader.
I don’t remember when I started reading as books have been faithful friends to me all my life. As a child who struggled with realizing my worth and place in the world, books provided me with an escape, more knowledge, and the message that I was not alone.
I understand the value of a message that reaches even one person.
Although it seems obvious to me now that words would be an important part of my adult life—just as they were in my childhood—it took a while for me to realize how that love would manifest itself to help others.
College found me wondering how to direct my future, and after college, finding a job in my major proved impossible. I took what I could get.
I’ll never regret that as I met my sweet husband in one of those I-need-a-job jobs. And those jobs taught me so much—even about writing, editing, and proofreading.
I gravitated toward the written part of the job—like responding as succinctly and clearly to student emails as I could, creating easy-to-use training materials, and making the office website as user-friendly as possible.
As children, we don’t like to think that our parents know us better than we do, but somehow my sweet mama had an inkling of my future long before I did. She’d given me a book probably in high school, and years later, I finally read it.
See, I preferred to read fiction—especially Christian fiction—so a nonfiction book didn’t appeal to me for a long time. I finally pulled The Soul Tells a Story by Vinita Hampton Wright from my shelf.
The pages of that book awoke in me a desire to be a writer.
I began two novels and wrote many short stories.
Then I started my blog (HISsparrowBlog) in 2016, which is a Christian living blog that focuses on identity through Christ.
I learned so much about writing, editing, and proofreading through my blogging.
I’ve always been passionate about learning about grammar, so when I saw an ad for Proofread Anywhere’s proofreading quiz and course, I knew I’d found another way to help others.
I would love to help you get your message to that person who needs it.
